What is Project SUCCESS?
Services Include:
- In the classroom setting, teaching students healthy coping skills and decision making; providing accurate information to increase their understanding about the dangers and consequences of using alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
- Provide screenings to identify any underlying mental health issues, substance use, bullying or family conflict, etc that is contributing to the student's behavior to address the issue before it becomes bigger problem.
- Teaching students’ skills for resisting peer pressure, responding to conflict, and skills for coping with stressful situations.
- Coordinates with school and many community organizations and resources. Refers and follows-up with students and families needing services such as PACH (People Against Child Hunger), Community Health services, counseling services, & the Community Closet located in the Middle School.
- Working on school wide awareness campaigns with groups such as Peers Educating and Encouraging Peers (PEEPs) and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) to promote alcohol, tobacco, and drug free lifestyles for students.

This program is funded by federal dollars through grants provided by SD Dept of Social Services Prevention Program and SD Dept of Health, Watertown Area United Way and Watertown Area Community Foundation received by the Watertown Healthy Youth coalition in collaboration with the Watertown School District.
